Mass., R.I. See Record July Temperatures

Last month was a record warm July for both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reported on Tuesday.

Massachusetts' average temperature was 75 degrees in July, NOAA's climate center said. That's tops among 119 years of records, and 4.7 degrees above the 20th century average.

Rhode Island's average temperature last month was 76.2 degrees — 5.8 degrees above the state's 20th century average, and also the hottest in 119 years of records there.

The NOAA report added that the seven Northeast states all had temperatures ranking among the 10 warmest on record.

The average temperature for the contiguous U.S. in July was 74.3 degrees — 0.8 degrees warmer than the 20th century average. It was the nation's 30th warmest month on record.
