Hernandez Cousin Pleads Not Guilty To Contempt

A cousin of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to a contempt charge for allegedly refusing to testify before the grand jury that indicted Hernandez in the murder of a friend.

Tanya Singleton entered her plea Friday in a Fall River court. She was ordered held without bail and is due back in court Oct. 3. Singleton's attorney declined to comment following the hearing.

Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter says Singleton refused to testify after she was offered immunity.

The same grand jury on Thursday indicted Hernandez on first-degree murder and weapons charges in the death of his friend Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player from Boston.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in district court in June. He is being held without bail.
