8-Alarm Fire Tears Through South Boston Building
Authorities say there were no reported injuries in an eight-alarm blaze in a commercial building in Boston that firefighters quickly brought under control.
An alarm-monitoring company reported the fire at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The fire was under control by about 6 a.m. but firefighters were dousing hotspots late into the morning.
According to broadcast reports, the five-story brick building on Summer Street in South Boston's Innovation District was undergoing renovations.
There were reports of a cleaning crew in the building, but they made their way safely out a back entrance.
Firefighters attacked the blaze from outside because of uncertainty over the integrity of the building.
Traffic was diverted from the area.
There was no word on a cause.
