The overnight storm is coming to an end over the entire area Sunday morning. The morning saw sleet and rain in the Boston area after 3-6 inches of snow fell. Near 10 inches of snow fell further west and north approaching the New Hampshire border. Most of the snow was washed away by heavy rain over Cape Cod.

Temperatures have warmed above the melting point in many areas of eastern Massachusetts but will start to fall back again late Sunday morning and early afternoon. As this happens any remaining slush and water will re-freeze solid. It may be a good idea to remove as much of the snowy mess as possible early to avoid a frozen driveway later Sunday.

Temperatures hit the 50s over parts of Cape Cod and the Islands before falling below freezing late today and this evening.

Dry and cold weather resumes Monday with a brisk wind. Another system will bring some light snow to the area on Tuesday afternoon.

Metro Boston and Southeastern Massachusetts Forecast

Today: Cloudy skies and turning colder this afternoon.  Temperatures steady well inland, but falling to the upper 20s and mid 30s from Boston to Cape Cod.

Overnight: Mostly clear and cold. Lows 11 in the cold spots to mid 20s on Nantucket.

Sunday: Rain and snow ending in the morning. Morning highs near 40 in Boston to near 30 over Worcester county. Temperatures will fall in the afternoon to below freezing everywhere.

Monday: Mostly sunny and breezy. Temperatures ranging between 21 and 28.

Tuesday: Increasing clouds with a period of afternoon or evening snow, may mix with rain over Cape Cod. Temperatures in the upper 20s and mid 30s.
