Framingham State University has a new president who already has experience working in the Massachusetts public higher education system.
The university's trustees on Tuesday recommended naming former University of Massachusetts-Amherst administrator F. Javier Cevallos to the school's top position.
Cevallos is currently the president of Kutztown University in Pennsylvania.
Trustees Vice Chairman Richard Logan praised Cevallos for his wealth of experience and familiarity with Massachusetts.
Cevallos said in a statement to The MetroWest Daily News that he has been a longtime admirer of Framingham State.
If approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education on Jan. 21, he will start in July.
Cevallos will take over for Robert Martin, who has been interim president since Timothy Flanagan left in August for the president's job at Illinois State University.
