GOP's Gomez Rules Out Run In Mass. This Year

Republican Gabriel Gomez, a former Navy SEAL who ran for the U.S. Senate last year, says he will not seek political office in Massachusetts in 2014.

The Cohasset resident announced Thursday he planned to launch a new private business venture.

Gomez was defeated by Democrat Edward Markey after winning the Republican nomination for the special election to fill the remainder of Secretary of State John Kerry's term in the U.S. Senate.

In recent months, Gomez had said he was considering another race against Markey or seeking another political office in 2014.

Gomez said in a statement that he planned to continue speaking out on key issues and remained open to running for elective office in the future.
