Cops Probe Officer's Justification For Shooting Knife-Wielding Man In Brookline

Police are investigating whether a Brookline officer was justified in shooting a man who authorities say charged at the officer and another cop with a knife.

Authorities say the officer shot the 27-year-old man Friday night. The man is being treated at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is expected to survive.

Officials haven't named the man or the officer, who is on paid leave under routine procedures for police shootings.

Two officers responded to Beach Street on reports of a man with a knife who appeared to be high on drugs. Police say that when the officers knocked on the man's door, he opened it and charged at them with a knife. One of the officers shot at the man twice and hit him once.

The officers weren't hurt.
