Crunch Time For Pending Bills On Beacon Hill

Crunch time is near on Beacon Hill.

Wednesday is the deadline for legislative committees to make recommendations on the thousands of bills routinely filed in each two-year session.

Bills that aren't recommended by committees by Wednesday face a slim chance of becoming law in the current formal session that ends July 31.

Several major pieces of legislation are still pending such as new gun control legislation that House Speaker Robert DeLeo has indicated he wants to pass this session. That bill hasn't been filed yet.

Despite the rules, lawmakers can move quickly to pass bills even if they have to suspend rules to do so.

It took lawmakers just a day to write, file and approve a bill earlier this month to outlaw secretly taking photos up women's skirts.
