Lawmakers Approve 'Boston Strong' License Plate

A bill creating a "Boston Strong" license plate has been given final approval by lawmakers.

The measure was sent to Gov. Deval Patrick's desk on Monday, one day before the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing. The phrase "Boston Strong" became popular after the April 15, 2013 attack that killed three people and injured more than 260 others.

The specialty license plate will cost $50, with proceeds after administrative costs going to One Fund Boston. The One Fund was created to provide financial assistance to victims of the bombing.

In addition to the words "Boston Strong," the bill calls for the plate to include a design showing support for those most affected by the bombing.

Massachusetts has more than a dozen specialty license plates that benefit a range of causes.
