Republican Party officials said Friday they plan in the coming days to certify Republican candidate for governor Mark Fisher to appear on the September primary ballot.

A Superior Court judge on Friday canceled an expedited trial on Fisher's ballot access lawsuit that had been scheduled for June 16. The judge told attorneys for both parties they could continue to pursue possible damages to Fisher under a normal trial timeframe.

Fisher contends that Republican Party officials improperly counted votes as their March nominating convention, causing him to narrowly fall short of the threshold needed to qualify for the ballot.

Fisher and GOP officials in recent days have hurled accusations back and forth over allegations concerning monetary offers in connection with his ballot access and his lawsuit.

Certification of the Shrewsbury Republican to appear on the ballot would ensure that Charlie Baker, the preferred choice of Republicans at their nominating convention, will have a Tea Party primary opponent over the next four months.
