Private Fall River School Abruptly Closes

The state attorney general's office is investigating after a private school in Fall River abruptly closed just a month before the end of the school year.

Seton Academy, which served students in kindergarten through the eighth-grade, closed its doors for good on Wednesday without explanation.

While following a Catholic curriculum, the school was neither affiliated with nor funded by the Fall River Diocese. It had just a few dozen students.

Trustees had previously announced that the school would close at the end of the school year due to declining enrollment, lack of funding and increasing debt.

Parents tell The Herald News that teachers had stopped getting paid.

A spokesman for the attorney general says investigators are looking into the closure and helping parents find schools for their children.
