CapeFLYER Train Service Opens For The Season

It's Memorial Day Weekend, so weekend Boston-to-Cape Cod train service is back.

CapeFLYER, the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority's direct summertime rail service from South Station to Hyannis, begins Friday.

"We're excited," said Tom Cahir, the transit authority's director. "We're anticipating a lot of folks coming down to the Cape this weekend. I understand central and Worcester, Massachusetts, might have some inclement weather, but the Cape is forecast to have nice weather."

The train will depart South Station at 5:12 p.m. and arrive in Hyannis at 7:50 p.m. A roundtrip ticket can be purchased for $40 at South Station or using the MBTA's mTicket mobile app. Children under 12 ride for free.

The train will also make stops in Braintree, Middleborough/Lakeville, Buzzard's Bay and Hyannis. A CapeFLYER stop at Wareham Village is set to open this summer.

The CapeFLYER will run weekends until Labor Day. In addition, the train will run on Memorial Day (Monday) on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.

Amenities on the train include a concession stand and free WiFi. Passengers are also allowed to bring bikes and pets at no charge.

Last year, 17,ooo passengers used the service in a fifteen-week period, according to the state.
