Proposed Allston Rail Station Not In Budget

A proposal to build a commuter rail station in Boston's Allston neighborhood appears to be dormant because there is not enough money to pay for it.

The station would link Cambridge, Allston, and downtown Boston and would be built part of the state transportation department's plans to reconfigure the Massachusetts Turnpike.

The Boston Globe reports that the station was included in a map released in January by the department. The station would provide extra stops on the Worcester commuter rail line, allowing people to make a direct trip from South Station or the Back Bay to Allston in less time than the trolley.

But at a recent public meeting a state transportation official announced that the cost of constructing a station would not be part of the $260 million budget.
