4 Arrested In Springfield Over Alleged Role In Drug Ring

Police in Springfield have seized more than 4,800 bags of heroin and at least 230 grams of pure heroin after arresting four people involved in an alleged heroin packaging and distribution operation.

Police say the arrests capped several weeks of an investigation targeting a Groveland Street home. The probe began after investigators learned that Sandro Tavero-Mora, who is also known as Jose "Laureano" Ayala, was delivering large amounts of heroin to local distributors in western Massachusetts.

Detectives arrested the 43-year-old suspect as he was making a delivery on Thursday. He was found with 1,400 bags of heroin stamped with the "Apple" brand. A search of the Groveland Street home yielded the remaining drugs, more than $3,800 in cash and additional arrests.

The suspects face drug and conspiracy charges.
