Police Identify 2 Of 3 Victims In Amtrak-Car Crash

Two Massachusetts men were among the three people killed when their SUV was struck from behind by an Amtrak train on a track right of way last weekend, police said.

Mansfield Police Lt. Sam Thompson said in a statement Wednesday that Zachary Keene, 26, of Raynham, and David Curry, 28, of Foxborough, have been identified by the state medical examiner's office. He said the third victim was a woman, but further forensic testing is needed to positively identify her.

Keene's friends have told local news media that he was a talented bass player and audio engineer.

Police said the three were traveling in a Land Rover that was on the eastbound right of way between the Gilbert Street and Elm Street overpasses in Mansfield when it was struck by a Boston-bound Amtrak Northeast Regional train just before midnight Sunday.

The crash caused the train's engine to derail and delayed train service on Monday. None of the 180 passengers or crew on the train was hurt.

Several agencies, including Mansfield, state, Amtrak and Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority police, continue to investigate.

Police have said the crash debris spread nearly a mile in the wooded area. They said a vehicle could have accessed the tracks in several places in the area. They said the train speed limit there is 125 mph.
