What's turning out to be a slow-moving public corruption trial resumes Friday morning in federal court in Boston.

Prosecutors are trying to prove former state probation Commissioner John O'Brien and two top deputies illegally rigged department hiring to curry favor with state lawmakers and win increases in the Probation Department budget.

But WBUR's David Boeri joins Morning Edition to talk about the growing tension between the judge and prosecutors about how long the trial is taking.

This segment aired on June 27, 2014.
