As the Obama administration searches for ways to address an apparent surge in unaccompanied children crossing southern borders into this country, some U.S. lawmakers are trying to better understand what's causing that surge.

Massachusetts U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch is part of a bipartisan congressional delegation traveling this week to Central America to look into what's causing child migrants to flood the border.

Lynch joins WBUR's Morning Edition to talk about how while crime and a lack of opportunities are likely causing the mass exodus, lawmakers want to understand the recent spike in numbers.
