Partners HealthCare Reaches Payment Agreement With Somerville

Partners HealthCare has reached an agreement with the city of Somerville to make annual municipal services payments for offices it plans to build in Assembly Square.

The state's largest health care provider, along with the private developer that will run street-level retail space under the offices, will pay the city $1.7 million by 2017, and up to $2.2 million once the project is completed.

The agreement also stipulates that Partners "will engage in good faith efforts to make employment opportunities available to Somerville residents."

"The State’s largest employer and a major player in the healthcare industry has chosen Somerville," Mayor Joseph Curtatone said in a statement. "We can now seize upon this momentum to bring other high-quality employers not just to Assembly but also to Union Square, Inner Belt and Boynton Yards.”

Partners last year announced plans to move 4,500 administrative employees to 1.1 million square feet of office space at the massive $1.5 billion Assembly Row development.

Planners say the development, where a new MBTA station is expected to open before the end of the summer, will ultimately feature up to 2,100 residential units, a hotel, 1.75 million square feet of office space and 500,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
