Police: Man Assaults Airport Worker With Oversized Bag

A Carlisle man is accused of hitting a 74-year-old female security worker at Logan International Airport in the face with a backpack after being told the bag was too large to be carried on to a flight.

State police say a trooper who was patrolling Terminal B Tuesday saw the man, later identified as 53-year-old Eric Brandhorst, talking to the security representative. After being directed to the United Airlines baggage check area, the trooper says Brandhorst suddenly swung the backpack at the woman, hitting her in the head and knocking her to the ground.

Brandhorst was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over the age of 60. He was released Tuesday on his own personal recognizance with orders to stay away from Logan Airport until his next court date on February 3.

Police said he told troopers he was aggravated and made a mistake.

The worker was taken to a hospital for observation.
