Revere Tornado Fund To Begin Distributing Checks

The long wait will soon be over for residents and business owners in Revere who sustained property damage in a tornado that swept through the city last summer.

The Revere Tornado Relief Fund says it will begin sending notifications next week to about 150 applicants approved for assistance.

The EF-2 tornado, packing winds of up to 120 mph, struck the coastal city just north of Boston on July 29. No deaths or serious injuries were reported in the tornado, but dozens of buildings including City Hall were damaged.

The fund has raised about $500,000 since it was created in August. Attorney Gerry Leone, who is overseeing the fund, says it will lighten the burdens for people affected by the tornado even if it won't compensate for all of the property losses.
