Former Massachusetts Probation Commissioner John O'Brien reportedly is being pressured to testify before a grand jury into what appears to be a renewed investigation into whether or not state politicians took part in the patronage hiring scheme at the Probation Department.

The Boston Globe cites anonymous sources as saying that O'Brien has been subpoenaed. O'Brien is appealing his 18-month prison sentence for running for the hiring scheme at the department.

The hiring scheme was first outlined in an independent investigative report done in 2010 by attorney Paul Ware. Ware joins Morning Edition to talk about these developments.
