Voting Under Way In 2 Massachusetts House Races

Polls in two Massachusetts legislative districts are open as voters choose successors for ex-lawmakers who joined Gov. Charlie Baker's administration.

The race in the 11th Worcester District, which includes Shrewsbury and parts of Westborough, pits Democrat Jason Palitsch against Republican Hannah Kane. The winner of the special election fills the House seat formerly held by Republican Matthew Beaton, now Baker's Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Prior to Beaton, the seat was held by now Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito.

In East Boston, Democrat Adrian Madaro is facing independent candidate Joanne Pomodoro. There is no Republican on the ballot. The winner succeeds former Democratic state Rep. Carlo Basile, who left the job to serve as legislative liaison to the Republican governor.
