Forecast: One Of The Warmest Starts To February On Record

Are you loving the spring-like weather to start the third month of meteorological winter, or thinking it’s just not right?

Whatever your feelings, today is going to be one of the top five mildest starts to February on record, and we could be just as warm Wednesday when the record high of 59 degrees will be in jeopardy.

A large and potent snowstorm is moving through the western part of the country and headed into Canada to the far left of New England. This will bring a major snowstorm and blizzard to parts of the Plains states, but propel warm and moist air northward to the right.

Today will be a day to take your lunch outside and sit under the clouds and sunshine and just enjoy the fact it’s not really wintry by any measure.

As low pressure passes to our west tomorrow night and Wednesday, a period of rain and embedded showers will ensue. There’s no chance of any wintry weather with this system, and it will hurt the man-made snow across ski country.

Both the morning and evening commutes Wednesday are potentially wet, meaning a slower ride in and out of Boston. The rain will end Wednesday evening with cooler air arriving for the remainder of the week.

Thursday still brings highs in the 40s, but it’s back to the 30s thereafter.

There will be a storm passing to our east this weekend and while I don’t expect much in the way of rain or snow from it, I’ll certainly keep an eye on the models for any changes.

There will be much colder air blowing in from the Arctic later this week and next, but the core of this bitterly cold air is likely to move into the center of the nation before arriving here.
