Forecast: Less Wind, But Still Very Cold Today

Spring in New England can be frustrating, and the weather over the next week or so is going to frustrate those of you who want mild temperatures and sunshine.

You'll get sunshine today, but certainly no mild air. The arctic front which passed the region on Wednesday was the leading edge of very cold air for March. Thus far, March has actually been colder than December, January and February — something that doesn't happen very much. Winds will tend to subside through the day, but temperatures won't be very warm. Temperatures across the state will stay under 40 degrees or 5 to 8 degrees below average.

A warm front will lift north on Friday bringing with it the chance for some light frozen precipitation. Anything that falls won't amount to very much, but I can't rule out some slick spots especially away from the coast Friday morning.

Saturday is the warmest day of the next five. I expect highs to reach near 50, and there is a chance of a few showers. The best odds for precipitation will be in the afternoon.

Another front crosses the area Sunday bringing more chances of rain or or mixed precipitation. This isn't a storm — just some light stuff.  (As you can see, this is why I wrote Monday to wait before worrying about a possible weekend storm.)

Much of the upcoming week looks somewhat unsettled. I expect several periods of raw, damp weather with highs in the 40s.
