State Trooper Shoots Suspect During Arrest Attempt Near I-93

State Police say a trooper shot and wounded a person while police were rounding up a group that had been riding off-road bikes and all-terrain-vehicles dangerously on a Boston interstate.

Spokesman David Procopio says numerous 911 calls were received Saturday evening about the 25 to 35 people driving erratically on Interstate 93. He says troopers were trying to make arrests at an exit ramp when one trooper discharged his weapon, striking a 28-year-old Randolph man.

The man was taken to the hospital for what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries and another rider, who wasn't shot, is being evaluated after complaining of pain. State police say they'll likely be charged.

A trooper also suffered a knee injury and is receiving medical treatment.

Five other suspects were arrested and charged with various offenses. They'll be arraigned next week.
