Explosive Device Found At Western Mass. Fairgrounds

Police are investigating an explosive device found at a Massachusetts fairground.

Western Mass News reported an explosive device was found in a runaway vehicle at the Three County Fairgrounds Friday night in Northampton.

Northampton Police say the car was involved in a pursuit around 8:15 p.m. The driver abandoned the car in a meadow on the fairgrounds and fled with two other occupants.

Police apprehended two of the three juvenile male occupants, but ultimately did not arrest them. There is no information available about the third suspect.

A member of the state's Fire Marshal's Office said that an IED device was found in the vehicle, which she said was likely for making homemade fireworks.

The grounds appear to be open to the public Saturday.
