'Use-Of-Force' Simulator Among New Upgrades To Yarmouth Police With Funds After Officer Death

A Massachusetts police department plans to build a new training facility for its officers, K-9s and SWAT team with donations made to a nonprofit foundation following the death of a beloved sergeant.

The Cape Cod Times reports the Yarmouth Police Department will upgrade the training room in its headquarters, including a new "use-of-force" simulator.

The tool is designed to teach officers how to react in violent situations. There are also plans to expand the area behind the police station, and potentially to build a "shoot house' to allow officers to practice clearing and searching rooms.

The Yarmouth Police Foundation received an influx of donations following the death of Sgt. Sean Gannon in April. Gannon was shot and killed in the line-of-duty when he and his K-9 partner Nero were searching a house to serve an arrest warrant.
