Forecast: Heat Wave Begins This Weekend

Update: Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has declared a heat emergency for Saturday. Cooling centers and swimming pools at Boston Centers for Youth & Families will be open.

Epstein's earlier weekend forecast:

If you like the heat and humidity, the upcoming weather is just for you.

If you picked this weekend and next week for your beach vacation, you did a great job. Although, it may be a bit hot if you're not right by the water.

Heat waves are nothing new to New England, but some inland areas may start piling up enough 90-degree days to make this one of the longer heat waves in the record books. A heat wave is when the temperature is at 90 or above for three days or more each day.

The heat will begin Saturday. A few spots may touch 90 Friday afternoon, but it's really the weekend during which the hot weather will hit.

Sunday is a very hot day, with temperatures in the mid- to upper 90s inland, but this entire time it will be cooler over Cape Cod and the Islands, as well as the outer tip of Cape Ann.

I'm not looking for any precipitation over the weekend, just a lot of sunshine — perhaps a little bit of early morning fog over Cape Cod. The next chance of any showers or thunderstorms may come sometime Tuesday evening, but that's so far away that it's not worth worrying about.

The heat wave likely breaks sometime next weekend. So if you're not looking forward to the heat, you have quite a ways to go.
