Forecast: Rainy, Muggy Weather Continues

After a weekend which featured muggy air, showers and a lot of clouds, we find a similar pattern in place this morning. I am expecting more showers today, but not an all-day rain. Remember, showers can pop up almost anytime and some can contain a downpour.

It can be frustrating not knowing exactly when it might rain, but just keep the umbrella close at hand and use your favorite radar app to see where the showers are at any moment.

The chance of thunderstorms is low, but not zero, so don’t be shocked if you hear a few rumbles today.

Temperatures won’t be very warm with a wind coming off the water. Ocean temperatures are now nearing their peak readings for the entire year, so a cool sea breeze isn’t very cool, but Boston is likely to remain under 80 today. Inland areas could reach this point, if there is some sunshine between the showers.

When it does rain, it can come down quite hard. The chance of showers will last into Wednesday, but is highest today and tomorrow. By the middle of the week some drier air will work east and lower the risk of rain. Thursday looks like my pick of the week.

The reason for all this humid showery weather is an area of high pressure in the Atlantic which is very strong. This area is preventing the cooler Canadian air from moving south and keeps a flow of humid air in New England. This could last the rest of the month with only minor breaks in the humidity.
