Following a series of devastating explosions, officials say it will be weeks before Columbia Gas customers in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover have their natural gas service restored.

Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera says the crisis will affect people's bottom line in countless ways. "This isn’t a gas problem, and this isn’t an electricity problem or an infrastructure problem. This, what we have, is a human problem," he says.

Reporter Callum Borchers joins WBUR's All Things Considered host Lisa Mullins to discuss ongoing impacts to the Merrimack Valley, from school closures to forced hotel stays.

This segment aired on September 17, 2018.
