Forecast: Cool Monday, Wet Tuesday Ahead

A frontal system from the north has allowed Canadian high pressure to build in today and this means a fall-ish day to start the work week. Temperatures will actually be below average and with a gusty northeasterly wind, especially across the North Shore and even into Boston. It's going to feel rather cool this afternoon. The chill won't last, however, as already we see a warm front to the south poised to move into New England tomorrow along with some rain.

An area of rain, some of it quite heavy, will accompany it. Heavier elements of precipitation embedded within the general area of rain can produce urban street flooding.

I'm expecting generally anywhere from three quarters of an inch up to 2 inches of rain in isolated spots. This will be a good soaking and if you would like to put down some grass seed today it would probably get pushed into the ground during the day tomorrow. I hesitate to recommend much fertilization because sometimes the heavy rain can actually wash it out; a gentle rain is better for that.

Behind this system, it will turn warm and muggy for Wednesday with that feeling of summer. While high temperatures today will struggle towards 60, by Wednesday those readings will be nearing 80 in the afternoon.

The timing of the increase in humidity means Wednesday night will be a bit uncomfortable for sleeping as dew points remain in the 60s nearly the entire night before falling toward morning. The rest of this week looks to be dry with seasonably cool temperatures. Presently the weekend also looks to be comfortably cool, but that is still several days away.
