The Australian artist Gotye (a.k.a. Wally Debacker) has released a few albums, but his latest, Making Mirrors, has positioned him for a breakout year. He's already made a splash in the U.S., thanks in part to the singer Kimbra, who provides the perfect female counterpoint in the emotional single "Somebody That I Used to Know." Breakups are painful, of course, but the music they inspire can be revelatory, as is the case here.
During Gotye's American radio debut on KCRW this past November, he explained that Making Mirrors is so named because its songs are a reflection of his life.
