Faithful listeners of Alt.Latino will recognize Ceci Bastida her unique musical style. The Mexican singer became famous in the ska-punk band Tijuana No! She then joined pop icon Julieta Venegas, and in recent years has embarked on a stellar solo career. Bastida, who combines elements of nortena with pop and funk, hits a sweet spot: Her music is deceivingly danceable, fun and bubblegum, but also profound. Bastida often writes about her own experiences as a Mexican woman living in the U.S., as well as motherhood and even works of literature.
I was recently in Los Angeles on assignment and was excited to have Bastida invite me into her house. We spent the afternoon discussing music, Mexico and much more. (There may or may not have been mezcal involved.) So tune in, and as always let us know your thoughts in the comments.
