Essie Mae Washington-Williams, the 78-year-old mixed-race daughter of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina, breaks her decades-long silence and tells reporters that she is "finally at peace." She says she did not come forward earlier because she didn't want to jeopardize Thurmond's political career or embarrass his family. NPR's Michele Norris reports.
