Correction: We incorrectly say that employers must show they have looked for American workers before hiring H-1B visa holders. In fact, most prospective employers can avoid having to show they've recruited Americans as long as they meet certain guidelines.

Overhauling immigration is complicated and controversial. There's been a proposed increase in H-1B visas. Those are the visas that allow companies to bring in skilled foreign workers for jobs that can't be filled by Americans.
