NPRNational Press Club: AARP Head Bill Novelli

  • February 9, 2005, 12:00 AM

Bill Novelli is CEO of America's largest membership organization, the AARP. In recent months, the organization has made clear its opposition to President Bush's proposals to privatize aspects of Social Security. Novelli told the National Press Club in his speech that the AARP would prefer to see improvements in health care before changes to Social Security. "Unlike health care, Social Security does not need a radical overhaul," Novelli said. "We don't have to dismantle this successful program in order to save it."
