Delta Spirit: Newport Folk 2011

Delta Spirit's Matt Vasquez is used to shouting to be heard — he got his start as a busker in San Diego — so his band knows how to convey the live-wire energy musicians need to be heard over the din of passing trains. Mixing boisterous roots-rock with clattering trashcans and booming bass drums, a Delta Spirit show really brings to life the "spirit" in the band's name. Vasquez will be especially busy at the 2011 Newport Folk Festival in Newport, R.I., as he splits his time between Delta Spirit and Middle Brother, the supergroup in which he appears with members of Deer Tick and Dawes.
