4 Films For Your Holiday Weekend

In "Whiplash," A promising young drummer (Miles Teller) enrolls at a cutthroat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by an instructor (J.K. Simmons) who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential. (Daniel McFadden/Sony Pictures Classics)

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1″ is expected to dominate the box office this Thanksgiving weekend. But Boston Globe film critic Ty Burr says there are some other films you might want to check out as well, including “The Theory of Everything,” “The Homesman,” “Foxcatcher” and “Whiplash.”

As Burr told Here & Now’s Peter O’Dowd, these films tackle serious subjects: “These are movies have something to say, that want to be discussed, that have a measure of artistry and craft to them — want to contribute to a cultural conversation.”
