When Real Salt Lake lost to the Mexican club Monterrey they lost the opportunity to represent America in the FIFA Club World Cup. In Bill Littlefield’s interview with Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, Wahl says it was not only a blow to Real Salt Lake, but also to American soccer.

“It was the first time that an MLS team had gotten to the Champions League Final in CONCACAF. After playing a really brutal schedule and several games in hostile environments and getting to finals, Salt Lake had a great opportunity.”

Wahl also commented on the powerhouse that Barcelona FC has become in *** La Liga and the rest of Europe due to one of its star players.

"I think this is one of the greatest teams La Liga has ever seen and in a crazy way I think Lionel Messi is a little bit underrated. Just in the sense that he is so far and away better quality wise than any other player in the world right now that I don’t think we’ve fully given it the attention it deserves.”
