photoOut of the blue...and into black and white. Since September 11th, America has been a land of us against them, faith against freedom, unum versus pluribus. That, says Forrest Church, is not the way it ought to be.

In his latest book, "The American Creed," the senior minister of All Souls Church in New York City makes the case for a renewed union between faith and freedom, in which faith elevates freedom, and freedom tempers faith.

It's not a new concept — Church found it right there, at the heart of the Declaration of Independence. But in an America inexorably scarred by the hatred of 9/11, it is a challenge. A new read of America's Creed.

Guests:

Forrest Church, senior minister, All Souls Church in New York City, and author, most recently, of "The American Creed: A Spiritual and Patriotic Primer"

This program aired on September 6, 2002.
