photoCaving to a barrage of criticism launched by conservative groups, CBS has dropped it's scheduled airing of "The Reagans." The mini-series, four years in the making, will now be broadcast on the CBS sister network Showtime. The move brought praise from conservatives and has been widely criticized by Democratic and progressive organizations.

It has been suggested that CBS hoped that controversy would boost ratings. On Point looks at how effective conservative activism influenced the networks decision.

Guests:

Michael Schaller, Professor of Political Science, Arizona State University and author of "Reckoning with Reagan, America and its President in the 1980's

Mark Hertsgaard, journalist and author of "On Bended Knee: The Press and the Reagan Presidency" and "The Eagles Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World"

This program aired on November 5, 2003.
