The People's Historian: Howard Zinn

Howard Zinn believes that ordinary people can shape history through social movements and that the common man should have primacy over the "great man" view of history. In 1980, Zinn laid down his version of American history in the bestselling "A People's History of the United States."

As of early last year, more than a million copies of the book had been sold. Today, Howard Zinn's "people's history" is enshrined in high school and college classrooms across the country. It's a classic as well as a remarkably radical view of the world.
