To hear the New Yorker's Seymour Hersh tell it, the U.S. bombers are practically on the runway, revved and loaded, ready to strike Iran.

Tehran is planning a pilot program in uranium enrichment, one big step on the road to nuclear weapons, this spring, and the Bush White House, Hersh reports, is determined to stop it.

Military planning is in high gear. Regime change is again the battle cry. A U.S. nuclear attack is on the table.

Yesterday President Bush responded. "Wild speculation," he said. "Diplomacy is the way." But the air is crackling in Washington.

Hear Seymour Hersh and voices hot and cold on battle plans for Iran, and how far off the shelf they've come.

Guests:

Seymour Hersh, investigative reporter The New Yorker magazine.

This program aired on April 11, 2006.
