Elizabeth Edwards has always been the wife, not the candidate, but she knows how to make news. When her husband John Edwards was on the White House ticket in '04, she was not shy about saying Lynn Cheney should settle down about public discussion of the Cheneys' daughter's homosexuality.

Just last month, she apologized for headlines that had her saying her life choices — home and children — had made her happier than "in-the-fray" Senator Hillary Clinton.

But it hasn't all been roses. Elizabeth Edwards has dealt with the sudden death of a teenaged son, and a breast cancer diagnosis on the day of her husband's '04 defeat.

We speak with Elizabeth Edwards about life and loss and politics.

Guests:

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former North Carolina Senator Democratic Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards, author of the new book "Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers."

This program aired on November 13, 2006.
