Twelve billion dollars a month are being spent now on the Iraq war, and lots of blood, too. It is THE topic on Capitol Hill right now, with a giant defense spending bill on the table.

The President said again yesterday in Cleveland, OH that he's hanging in. But Democratic Senators are pushing for US troops to start heading out of Iraq in 120 days. And Republicans are breaking with the president, too. How hard they're breaking is the question.

This hour On Point: we go to the heart of the raging Iraq war debate with Republican Senator Pete Domenici, Democratic Senator Russ Feingold, top analysts, and you.

Guests:

Peter Baker, reporter, Washington Post

Senator Pete Domenici, Republican Senator from New Mexico

Russ Feingold, Democratic Senator from Wisconsin

Max Boot, Senior Fellow for National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations

Lawrence Korb, former assistant Secretary of Defense under Ronald Reagan, Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress

This program aired on July 11, 2007.
