Everybody’s talking about Tim Tebow, the gung-ho, “Praise Jesus,” miracle NFL quarterback for the Denver Broncos.  The “mile-high messiah,” they’re calling him, for the Bronco’s high-altitude Denver stadium and Tebow’s very public turns to God.

He’s on a huge and skin-of-the-teeth winning streak right now.  And every pass and run and last-minute, game-winning touchdown comes wrapped in prayer and fingers pointed toward heaven.  His famous sideline kneeling prayer has become the hottest verb in English – to “tebow”.

This hour, On Point:  “God’s Quarterback.”  Prayer, positive thinking, and the NFL.

From Tom's Reading List

Wall Street Journal "On Sunday, when Denver Bronco wide receiver Demaryius Thomas caught a pass from Tim Tebow on the first play of overtime and ran it all the way for a game-winning touchdown, the stadium erupted. At once, people cried that it was a miracle, and Mr. Tebow went down to pray on one knee in his signature pose. Millions of viewers already knew the first words he would say whenever a reporter caught up to him for a postgame interview: "First of all, I want to thank my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!""

Los Angeles Times "And there is nothing untrue about any of them — the Broncos did have to rally late for an unlikely victory, something that has become a habit for the team in the eight games since Tebow took over as starting quarterback. The Broncos' seven victories during that stretch have included six second-half comebacks, five fourth-quarter rallies and three overtime periods."

Real Clear Sports "I have accepted Tim Tebow as my personal quarterback and savior."

New York Times "CAN God take credit for the victories of a thick-set N.F.L. quarterback who scrambles in a weirdly jittery fashion, throws one of the ugliest balls in the game, completes fewer than half of his passes and has somehow won six of his team’s last seven games?"
