The Week In Seven Soundbites: March 28, 2014

From Russia to Washington State to the doorstep of Oculus VR, this week was a doozy. Seven days gave us seven earworms.

President Barack Obama spent the week abroad (and, actually, so did his wife). The president hit up Brussels, the Vatican, and Riyadh. His main message? After a Crimean "land grab," Russia stands alone. (White House):

A mudslide in Oso, Washington has left more than 20 dead. One woman saw the whole scene, and relayed it On the phone with a 911 dispatcher.  (KING 5 News):

Americans can get more time as long as they check a blue box on Healthcare.gov to say that they tried to enroll before the deadline, but had trouble with the website. Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH)  had some criticism of the ‘honor system’ policy. (AP):

In Egypt, student protesters clashed with security officers after the sentencing of more than 500 Islamists to death. The sentences were in connection with the murder of a police officer, which took place after the ousting of former Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi last summer. (AP):

Former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld called out the president for his “terrible, terrible” U.S. diplomacy in Afghanistan. “Trained ape” was the phrase that caught the headlines. (FOX News):

After Malaysia Airlines sent out a text that, “beyond any reasonable doubt […] none of those aboard survived,” Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced what is now the assumed fate of the missing Malaysia Flight MH370(BBC):

Facebook bought virtual reality company Oculus Rift for $2 billion (just a smidge lower than WhatsApp). The markets didn’t look kindly on the move, but, trying Oculus for the first time, this grandma had no complaints. (YouTube):
