Beantown Blues: Making It In Boston's Music Scene
Boston rocks. But how hard?
Radio Boston goes on location at the Flophouse and takes you inside the modern Boston music scene. We profile three bands: Township, The Mmoss and The Jody Grind. We hear from a Boston superstar, Greg Hawkes of the Cars. And we talk with music critic Brett Milano on how the scene has changed and whether a band like the Cars could make it in Boston today.
Guests:
- Greg Hawkes, keyboardist for The Cars, and member of The New Cars
- Brett Milano, Boston music critic and author of "The Sound of Our Town: A History of Boston Rock and Roll"
- Jen Kelley and Andy Guthrie, creators of the Band in Boston and The Flophouse Sessions podcasts
When it comes to music videos, we lost count after MTV2, so we started our own rbTV.
First on the v-playlist, a little tease from our afternoon at the Flophouse:
A Boston music legend, the former Cars keyboardist Greg Hawkes, now strums his ukulele for The New Cars and for Radio Boston. He performed a one-time only, special rendition of the Cars classic, "You Might Think." It will live on our iPods forever.
