Massachusetts residents woke up to the year 2011 and found a radiant, blue sky and unseasonably warm temperatures. The dark days of December were in the past. New Year's resolutions had yet to be broken. It was a promising new year full of possibility.

Enter Old Man Winter, a.k.a., Craig Sandler of State House News.

Craig Sandler — with his bright eyes and shock of red hair — is not a typical doomsayer. But Sandler spends his time up on Beacon Hill, where this week the 2011 state legislative session officially gets under way. Sandler says a bright sunny year on Beacon Hill is not in the weather forecast.
