Bitter Cold Makes Bostonians Bitter

For those people that had to travel to work today in the almost sub-zero temperatures, getting to work and getting around was often a challenge. Many commuter trains were canceled. Buses were late or re-routed, and some buses bypassed their regular stops because of ice. There were also major delays on the green, blue and orange T lines.

To top it all off, the MBTA's text alert system that's supposed to let everyone know about canceled and delayed commuter trains wasn't functioning. All of these problems with the MBTA forced hundreds of commuters to wait out in the cold.

We speak with MBTA General Manager Richard Davey about what happened Monday, and how the MBTA plans to make changes so commuters won't have to endure the cold.

Guest:

  • Richard Davey, general manager, MBTA

This segment aired on January 24, 2011.
